Exercise physiologist

Below are some information supplied by Nicholas Steel, an accredited exercise physiologist based at Griffith University, Southport campus.

If you wish to be part of the Griffith University physio program, please make contact with them.

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist is an allied health professional that can design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for individuals with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists cover a wide range of pathology domains within their services, aiming to provide a holistic approach to client-centred care.

Exercise Physiologists also look at implementing behavioural change and lifestyle modification to improve quality of life, incorporating enjoyment activities and a holistic approach to care.
At the Griffith University Allied Health Clinic, we help manage chronic conditions to ensure the client’s needs are put first. We aim to optimise client outcomes to best serve the client and their health care approach whether that be pre-surgical, post-surgical, disease management, further prevention, behaviour or lifestyle modification, health maintenance or just client/goal specific treatment.

An Exercise Physiologist can provide:

  • Tailored exercise programs specific to the client needs or condition
  • Practical health advice
  • Strategies to help you manage and maintain a healthy weight
  • Education around positive behavioural and lifestyle changes
  • Exercise programs for fit and healthy people
  • Exercise-based rehabilitation after surgery or injury
  • General health education and support
  • Programs including but not limited to strength, resistance, cardiovascular or muscular endurance, balance, falls prevention, improving skills to remain independent, programs to enhance activities of daily living
  • Programs for individuals with disabilities

I’ve added a list of service prices below. The group classes (HEALth) is a great option that is affordable. I would also be happy to implement/start or begin/create a class for specific clientele if the demand was present (e.g. diabetes, weight loss, hypertension, balance & falls prevention etc.) so there is definitely plenty of options to open up times or spaces specific to what your clients may like or be interested in such as their own group time.

I’ve got some pamphlets for you outlining the services we have in the clinic, including Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Psychology, Social Work, Speech pathology.

Our clients do NOT require a referral, but they can use a referral as a funding pathway, as well as Medicare referrals (CDM, TCA, T2DM), Private Health insurance, Disability funding or private paying.

I hope this information is helpful to you, and feel free to contact me with any questions or for further information. Regarding machines we have access to, we have a DEXA scanning machine on site – although due to it’s maintenance costs it is not used frequently – unless the demand is there. If we have numerous clientele needing it, or a high demand for the DEXA scanning machine, we can look into providing that service if there is high demand for it!

I look forward to hearing from you and creating a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare to optimise patient outcomes. Thank you for considering our services. I hope you have a great day and please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or if you need anything at all.

Kind Regards,
Nicholas Steel
