Dr Liew graduated from Monash University (Victoria) in 1995.

  • He completed General Surgery Training (FRACS) in 2005.
  • After that he spent an extra 2 years in post fellowship training in Upper GI and Metabolic Bariatric Surgery.

Dr Liew returned to the Gold Coast in 2008 as a surgical consultant at The Gold Coast Hospital

  • He currently works full time at Gold Coast Private Hospital Healthscope and soon to be Mater Private Hospital.
  • He is a member of various Upper GI societies (GESA, ANZGOSA) and Metabolic Bariatric Surgical Societies (ANZMOSS, IFSO).
  • He is a leading contributor to Monash University Bariatric Surgery Registry

Dr Liew is an Upper GI and General Surgeon who specialises in metabolic bariatric surgery for severe obesity, metabolic syndrome (central obesity, hypertension, T2DM, dyslipidaemia), cardio-vascular risk factors and various other medical co-morbidities associated with obesity.

He also performs revision/conversion surgeries for weight gain recurrence and complicated cases after primary procedures.

Dr Liew services patients on the Gold Coast as well as rural  areas of Queensland plus Northern New South Wales, providing local and remote patients equitable access to surgery in a private tertiary healthcare centre as well as servicing The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as part of closing the gap initiative.
